Fallout 4 is a huge, complicated game. We’ve shown you how to do tons of things within this world, including finding the best weapons, building your settlement, establishing supply lines, and much more (which you can read more of in the side panel). However, it’s the small stuff that has been tripping up most new players, with Fallout 4 not doing the best job explaining itself. One of these small things that has caused some players frustration is the simple quest of building a chair. Here’s a quick guide on how to build Mama Murphy’s chair in Sanctuary.
Mama Murphy is the crazy, drug fueled fortune teller in Fallout 4. Give her whatever drug she’s asking for and she’ll tell you your future, essentially giving you a hint as to where to go and what to do next in the main story. But, when she first arrives at Sanctuary her only request is for her special chair. I say special chair, because that’s exactly what it is.
Most players will immediately put down a chair from the furniture menu of the Fallout 4 Workshop. This simply won’t do though. In order to build Mama Murphy’s chair you have to back out of the furniture menu and go to the Special section of the Workshop menu.
This is found all the way at the beginning of the menu, so back out as far as you can without exiting Workshop mode, then scroll all the way to the left. Here you’ll see the Special section, where you should see Mama Murphy’s chair. Unless you have other missions at this point it should be the only item in the menu. Build the chair found here using wood, cloth, and steel (check out our Resource guide if you need to find some) and you are all set, she’ll find it herself without any prodding on your part.
This menu will come up again later, but not often at all, so keep it in mind for when you’re tasked with building any other special objects in Fallout 4.
